Recently, Keyun Biocontrol’s Spodoptera frugiperda multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus(SfMNPV) 1.5×10^9PIB/ml SC was officially approved by ICAMA in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Administrative Approval Law and Regulations on the Control of Agrochemicals, and through the deliberation and adoption at the 1st Committee Meeting of the 10th National Pesticide Registration Review Committee.
Upon the registration, Keyun Biocontrol’s Spodoptera frugiperda multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus(SfMNPV) 1.5×10^9PIB/ml SC will be launched in both domestic and international markets for the control of Spodoptera frugiperda (fall armyworm).
The Spodoptera frugiperda (fall armyworm) can wreak havoc on a wide range of crops such as corn, soybeans, and cotton etc. due to its characteristics of preferring to feed on fresh leaves and reproducing rapidly. Currently, the Spodoptera frugiperda (fall armyworm) has developed a strong resistance to chemicals in many countries. However, due to the unique mode of action of Spodoptera frugiperda multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus(SfMNPV) 1.5×10^9PIB/ml SC, the fall armyworm does not develop any resistance to SfMNPV even if SfMNV is applied for a long time, which effectively makes up for the shortcomings of chemicals and ensures that the fall armyworm can be controlled by the means of biological technology
Spodoptera frugiperda multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus(SfMNPV) 1.5×10^9PIB/ml SC is an naturally occurring pathogenic virus that infects and kills only the larvae of Spodoptera frugiperda larvae with no effect on other organisms such as humans, animals, beneficial insects and other organisms. After SfMNPV particles are ingested by fall armyworm larvae, the protein crystal surrounding the virus particles dissolves in the alkaline conditions of the fall armyworm midgut, releasing virus particles that may infect other fall armyworm larvae nearby and spread widely in the field. As a large number of fall armyworm larvae are infected, a pandemic caused by the virus infection takes place the field. Eventually, the fall armyworm population in the field is under control. Because the SfMNPV-infected fall armyworm dies from the sickness caused by the virus rather than being poisoned by chemicals, the fall armyworm does not develop any resistance to SfMNPV. Therefore, Spodoptera frugiperda multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus(SfMNPV) 1.5×10^9PIB/ml SC is an excellent management tool. Not only can SfMNPV be used alone but also it can also be compatible with other chemicals as part of IPM.
